Roel Degamo (1966 – March 4, 2023) was a Filipino politician who served as the Governor of Negros Oriental. He held the position for multiple terms, although his tenure was marked by legal challenges and controversies.
Degamo's political career began in the early 2000s. He first became governor in 2011, succeeding Emilio Macias II. His governorship saw various infrastructure projects and social programs implemented in Negros Oriental. However, his terms were often contested, particularly in connection with election results and associated legal battles. He faced several disqualification cases, often related to the 2013 and 2016 elections where questions were raised about the vote counts and eligibility of candidates.
On March 4, 2023, Roel Degamo was assassinated at his residence in Pamplona, Negros Oriental. The attack also resulted in the deaths of several other people. The assassination sparked widespread condemnation and led to a major investigation. Several suspects were apprehended, and the incident highlighted ongoing issues of political violence in the Philippines.
